Deuce Harmon

"The hip fluidity and mental processing to operate at an elite level from the slot cannot be taught. Deuce Harmon has them. His footwork and run-support aggression compensate for limited length, giving him the tools to neutralize the short game and create disruption. He projects as a starting nickel and a high-impact specialist on key assignments."

Draft Sickos · Scouting profile2027 Draft · No. 004
01Play style

Harmon profiles as the modern 'scrappy' cornerback, compensating for a lack of length with sharp aggression and natural ball skills. Operating within SMU's dynamic scheme, he has proven a versatile asset capable of suffocating receivers in the slot or competing on the outside, thanks to electric click-and-close ability that allows him to shut down passing windows in milliseconds. His game relies on quick QB eye-reads and visual discipline, enabling him to anticipate routes pre-break, showcasing hip fluidity that facilitates smooth transitions without losing pursuit speed. At the next level, Harmon's ceiling is intrinsically tied to his ability to survive against prototypical NFL size. While his contact balance is admirable, he will struggle in jump-ball situations against larger receivers if he doesn't improve his body positioning to mitigate the physical disadvantage. His highest value lies in a scheme prioritizing off-man coverage or match zones, where he can leverage his lateral explosiveness to patrol the underneath. The primary question for evaluators will be his durability and whether his highly physical play style will ultimately diminish his longevity in a constant-contact league.

02What he does well
  1. 01

    Mental processing and eye discipline

Harmon exhibits technical maturity unusual for his age, consistently maintaining vision between the receiver and the backfield. This allows him to jump short and intermediate routes with surgical anticipation, turning 5-yard passes into null receptions or deflections.

  2. 02

    Lateral mobility and hip fluidity

His feet are extremely active and his hips operate without mechanical friction, allowing him to mirror fast receivers at the release without panic. This fluid turning ability keeps him competitive against speedsters, enabling him to consistently maintain the 'hip pocket'.

  3. 03

Aggressiveness at the point of attack

He doesn't shy from contact and enters the alley with a low pad level that allows him to bring down heavier runners. In screen games, his ability to evade receiver blocks and make the sure tackle is elite for his position.

  4. 04

    Burst and closing speed

When the ball is in the air, Harmon activates an extra gear that allows him to close the gap explosively. This closing speed is vital in zone schemes where he must cover large portions of territory from a deep alignment.

03What he's missing
  1. 01

    Length and Catch Radius Limitations

His wingspan is notably short, creating issues at the catch point against X-receivers 6'3" or taller. NFL QBs will exploit this physical deficit on back-shoulder throws and high balls in the red zone.

  2. 02

Loss of Leverage vs. Physical Receivers

While courageous, he tends to get displaced by receivers who use their hands well at the route stem. Needs to strengthen his upper body to avoid being dominated at the line of scrimmage when attempting physical press coverage.

  3. 03

Tendency for Grabbiness on Deep Routes

When he feels a receiver gaining vertical separation, Harmon occasionally resorts to jersey grabbing, which will result in consistent Pass Interference flags under professional officiating.

/ LIKELY
Mike Hilton

The most probable outcome is a quality starting nickel whose value is maximized in an aggressive scheme that weaponizes his downhill trigger.

/ CEILING
Kenny Moore II

His apex projection is a true defensive weapon from the nickel spot, leveraging instincts to overcome size and impact all three downs.

/ FLOOR
Jourdan Lewis

His floor is a serviceable rotational nickel who can be a liability against bigger bodies but holds his own in zone-heavy schemes.

Deuce's RAS will publish once the official testing drops.

The Relative Athletic Score needs the 40, vertical, broad jump, shuttle and 3-cone — numbers that don't exist until the NFL Combine or pro day. Until then we grade the CB on percentiles vs. his positional cohort (see athletic radar below).
