Buffalo spent pick 241 on a player who started 41 college games and was an Associated Press All-American five months earlier, which is not the usual profile at the end of the seventh round. Ar'maj Reed-Adams got there by being two very different linemen depending on the down. He left DeSoto, Texas as a three-star tackle in the 2020 class and spent four years at Kansas learning the interior, playing 31 games with 15 starts and moving between both guard spots and right tackle. Kansas ran well behind him - the 2023 offense generated 3.42 line yards per carry with a 75.6 percent power success rate and got stuffed on only 13.5 percent of runs, all comfortably above the national average.
He entered the portal on the last day of 2023 and committed to Texas A&M a week later, and from that point he never left the field: 13 starts at right guard in 2024 on an offense that finished 26th nationally and second in the SEC in rushing at 195.5 yards a game, then 13 more in 2025 as a captain, an AP preseason first-team All-American in August and a second-team AP All-American in December. Add 29 career penalties, a 2024 shoulder surgery, a weight that has been reported anywhere from 314 to 330 within the same season, and a 25th birthday during his rookie year, and the slide from a projected fifth-round grade to pick 241 makes sense.
What Buffalo bought is a specific, useful thing: an SEC-tested right guard with rare arm length who can win in short yardage on day one and who has already played every interior position plus right tackle. If the pass sets tighten and the hands come inside, the Will Hernandez outcome - a power guard who starts 90 games because he never gets moved backward - is live. The likelier version is Christian Mahogany: a late-round interior body who becomes a swing starter and jumbo-package specialist for six or seven years. The floor is the one that shows up when the penalties do not go away, and the run-blocking strength never earns enough snaps to matter.
