Knight is a downhill middle linebacker who plays with his eyes and gets to work early. He stacks the box, reads guard movement instead of chasing backfield flow, and triggers the instant the key confirms. His pad level drops on contact, his hands fit inside, and he rarely lets a blocker reset him once he is moving forward. No hesitation in his run fits.
In space he is more comfortable than most thumpers his size. He carries seams from the hook, opens his hips to run with tight ends, and closes on flat throws with real recovery burst. He is also a genuine A-gap and green-dog blitzer who times the snap and finishes. The separator is decision speed: he processes fast enough that ordinary athletic tools play a tick above their test numbers.
Single-gap 4-3 / nickel-base defense that lets the Mike attack downhill and asks the second level to cover in space rather than two-gap.
Year 1: immediate three-down starter and defensive signal caller in the middle. Ceiling: multi-year quality starter who tops out as an above-average all-situations Mike rather than an All-Pro.

Knight is the rare prospect whose evaluation is about identity as much as talent. He arrived at Georgia Tech as a quarterback, moved to linebacker, spent four years buried on the depth chart, and only became a football player in the last two seasons of a six-year college career. The tape shows a defender who learned the position from the inside out: he sees blocking schemes before they develop and plays like a man who has already been wrong enough times to stop guessing.
The production backs the tape. His 2023 breakout at Charlotte was 96 tackles with 5.5 for loss, three interceptions and a pick-six, then he took that game to the SEC and finished 2024 at South Carolina with 82 tackles, eight for loss, two sacks and three forced fumbles while ranking third in the SEC in solo stops. Same player against better people. The flag is the calendar — he turned 25 as a rookie, so there is no projection curve here, only what he already is.
Boards had him as a mid-Day 2 linebacker with a clean floor and a compressed ceiling, and Cincinnati took him at 49 with a defense that needed a communicator in the middle immediately. It was not a swing on upside. It was a team buying two years of ready starter play at a position where the Bengals had been guessing, and accepting the age tax to get it.

Rookie year 1 (2025): 17 games, 106 total tackles (58 solo), 5.5 TFL, 3.0 sacks, 2 INT, 7 PD, 1 FF as an immediate starting Mike for Cincinnati.
Cincinnati did not ease him in. Knight opened the 2025 season as a starter in the middle of the Bengals defense and never came off the field, playing all 17 games and finishing with 106 total tackles, 58 solo, 5.5 tackles for loss, three sacks, two interceptions for 39 yards, seven passes defensed and a forced fumble. That is a full three-down workload from a second-round rookie on a defense that had been searching for a signal caller in the box for years, and the ball production he flashed in college showed up immediately at the NFL level.
In hindsight the age concern looks like the right worry filed under the wrong heading. Nobody drafting Knight at 49 believed they were getting a decade; they believed they were getting an instant starter, and that is exactly what arrived. The retrospective question is not whether the pick worked in year one — it clearly did — but how many seasons of this level Cincinnati banks before the athletic edges start to fade. Judged on what a second-round linebacker is supposed to give you right away, this was one of the cleaner value hits of the round.
