Walker is a squatty, thickly built rusher who wins with leverage and relentlessness. At barely 6-1 and 263 pounds he plays under the pads of taller tackles, converts speed to power with a heavy bull rush, and simply does not stop working; 31 sacks in three Central Arkansas seasons is the product of a motor as much as a plan.
Against the run he anchors better than his height suggests and sets a hard edge on his side. The limitations are structural. His arms are under 32 inches, so long tackles who land first can steer him, and he does not have the ankle flexion to win the corner as a pure speed rusher. There is also almost no coverage tape.
David Walker fits best in a modern 4-2-5 nickel defense that prioritizes athleticism and coverage ability over traditional run-stuffing at the linebacker position.
He can immediately contribute on special teams and develop into a sub-package coverage linebacker with the potential to be a starter in a modern defensive scheme.
A traditional 3-4 two-gap scheme that demands heavy-handed, block-shedding linebackers would significantly diminish his impact.

Walker took the long road: two years at Division II Southern Arkansas, then three at Central Arkansas, where he became the best defensive player in the FCS. He piled up 191 tackles and 31 sacks in Conway, capped by a 68-tackle, 10.5-sack senior season that won him the Buck Buchanan Award and first-team FCS All-America honors.
The testing backed up the production. He ran 4.69 at 263 pounds, put up 26 bench reps, and posted a 7.15 three-cone and 4.39 shuttle, which are genuinely good change-of-direction numbers for that build. What he cannot change is the length. Under 32-inch arms on a 6-1 frame is a real problem against NFL tackles, and it is the reason a player with this production lasted until the fourth round.
The projection is a designated rusher and hybrid front piece who has to be schemed into favorable matchups, ideally rushing over a guard on passing downs rather than lining up wide against a left tackle. The ceiling is a rotational starter with eight sacks a year. The floor is a special-teams body whose FCS production does not survive the jump in competition. High-motor, high-variance, worth the swing.

There is nothing to evaluate yet. Walker tore his ACL in Tampa Bay training camp and was placed on injured reserve on July 28, 2025, before he played a single regular-season snap as a rookie.
That is the worst possible outcome for a small-school prospect whose entire case rested on proving the FCS production travels. He lost the rookie developmental year that players from his background need most, and he now has to come back from a major knee injury in a body type that depends on explosion out of a low stance. The pre-draft evaluation stands untouched, for better and worse. Year two in 2026 is effectively his rookie season, and it will decide whether the Buchanan Award meant anything at this level.
