A four-year Yale starter who moved from right guard to left tackle, Amegadjie was the rare Ivy League lineman with genuine NFL dimensions: 6-foot-5, 323 pounds, an 85 1/2-inch wingspan and 36 1/8-inch arms, paired with the loose hips of a much smaller man. He is a tackle by build and a guard by background, and both listings were live on draft night.
The production case was strong but small: the Bears noted he started all 24 games he played for Yale, and he was widely treated as a top-100 talent before a torn quadriceps ended his 2023 season in October and cost him the entire pre-draft workout circuit. Teams evaluated him off Ivy League tape against Holy Cross, Dartmouth and Morgan State, with medical rechecks in place of a Combine workout. The flags were obvious — competition level, late hands, a body of work interrupted by surgery — and the traits were just as obvious.
Boards split him between late second and fourth round, which is what happens when the athletic profile outruns the resume. Kiran Amegadjie was drafted by the Chicago Bears in the 3rd round of the 2024 NFL Draft. He has not yet played in an NFL regular season game.
Chicago drafted him as a developmental swing tackle and used him exactly that way. He appeared in six games as a rookie in 2024 and made one start, at left tackle on Monday Night Football in Week 15 at Minnesota, filling in for Braxton Jones. It went badly: he was beaten for a strip-sack of Caleb Williams in a 30-12 loss, and the coaching staff spent the following week defending the decision to put him out there. That single start remains the whole of his NFL starting resume. He entered 2025 working as a backup in camp, was inactive for Weeks 1 and 2, and went on injured reserve with an elbow injury on September 20, ending the season without a regular-season snap.
The verdict is still open, but the runway is shrinking. He reports to his third training camp in the summer of 2026 with six games, one start and a lost year behind him, which is roughly the worst-case timeline for a traits-over-tape pick out of the Ivy League. Nothing about the original evaluation was wrong — the length and the movement are real, and the medical was always the risk everyone priced in — but developmental linemen need reps, and injury has taken most of his. Chicago has kept him on the roster rather than exposing him to waivers, and that patience rarely survives a fourth season. This is the year that decides whether the Bears bought a starting left tackle or a camp body with rare arms.
