Robinson worked as a wide-nine end in Penn State's four-man front, and for two seasons he was a designated rusher more than a full-time end. The trait is get-off: he times the snap as well as anyone in the class and owns the first three yards of the arc before a tackle can climb out of his stance.
The counters are real too — a long-arm that stacks into a swipe when tackles overset, plus a well-timed inside spin. Against the run he spills rather than anchors: he slices, he chases, and he gets displaced when a tight end squares him up. The signature is 4.48 speed at 254 pounds, an athletic ceiling almost nobody in this edge class could match.

Robinson is a movement-first edge whose football identity is speed, not mass. He transferred from Maryland after his freshman year and became Penn State's designated pass-rush weapon opposite Adisa Isaac, a role that flattered the traits and hid the reps: he almost never had to two-gap, almost never had to hold up against a doubled down block, and rarely stayed on the field in short-yardage packages.
The production never matched the tape. Eleven and a half career sacks across three seasons, four of them in his final year over ten games, is thin output for a top-25 pick, and the box score kept telling the same story his coaches told — pressures, hurries, strip-sacks that other people recovered. The signature game was Rutgers in 2023: five solo tackles, two for loss, a strip-sack. The flags were obvious: a rush plan that leaned on the speed rush, a bull that stalled against real anchors, and a run defense that graded as a liability.
The board split on him accordingly. Some rooms had him inside the top fifteen on traits alone; others had him in the forties because the sack numbers refused to move. Miami took the traits at 21, betting a defensive front with existing interior pressure could keep him on his best downs while the counters and the strength caught up.

Miami played him exactly the way Penn State did. As a rookie in 2024 he appeared in all 17 games with a single start, worked as a rotational rusher, and finished with 26 tackles, six sacks and four passes defensed — a strong sack number for a part-time role and enough to make the pick look right on schedule. The 2025 season complicated it: 15 games, three starts, 21 tackles, four sacks and a forced fumble, with the pressure rate holding up better than the finishes. Through two years the line reads 32 games, 47 tackles and 10 sacks, a productive rotational edge rather than the double-digit-a-year problem a 21st pick is drafted to become.
In hindsight the evaluation was honest about what it was buying. Nobody argued Robinson was a complete end; the debate was whether the get-off and bend were rare enough to survive being one-dimensional, and so far the answer is a qualified yes. He rushes the passer at a first-round level and plays the run at a rotational one, which caps the snap count and the ceiling until the play strength arrives. Not a miss, not a star — a good pass rusher taken a few slots above what the résumé supported.
