A four-year Gamecock who grew into an SEC boundary starter, Smith is a 6-0, 180-pound cover corner with the length, foot quickness and recovery speed teams chase on the outside. The football identity is press-man: he wants to be at the line of scrimmage, in a receiver's chest, playing the route from the inside hip and turning it into a 50-50 ball.
The signature season was 2021 — 41 tackles, three interceptions and 11 pass breakups over 11 games — the kind of production that put him on early first-round boards. The 2022 tape was quieter: 27 tackles, one pick and five breakups, more penalties in contested moments, and a couple of games where physical receivers moved him at the top of routes. He declared in early December and tested loudly at Indianapolis with a 4.43 and a 38-inch vertical.
Boards split hard. Some evaluators kept him in the top 25 as CB2 in the class; the wider consensus slid him into the second round over the play-strength and discipline questions. Miami, rebuilding a secondary around Jalen Ramsey and Xavien Howard, took the traits at 51 and planned to develop him behind two established starters.

Smith never earned a defensive job in Miami: 15 games as a rookie in 2023 almost entirely on special teams, then six games and 15 tackles in an injury-shortened 2024. The Dolphins waived him on September 30, 2025 after 21 career games with zero starts and roughly 155 total snaps. He signed with the UFL's Columbus Aviators in the January 2026 draft.
Miami never found a role for him. As a rookie in 2023 he dressed for 15 games but played almost exclusively on special teams, finishing with two combined tackles and no defensive snaps of consequence behind Jalen Ramsey and Xavien Howard. Year 2 was worse: an injured-reserve stint limited him to six games, he was activated in late October 2024 and finished with 15 tackles, still without a single career start.
