Paul Dawson projects best in a 4-3 Cover-3 scheme that asks its linebackers to read and react, filling lanes and making tackles, rather than consistently dropping into deep coverage.
Initially a rotational linebacker and special teams contributor, he possesses the potential to develop into a starting weak-side linebacker who excels in run defense.
He would be a poor fit in a Fangio two-high defense that prioritizes athletic, rangy linebackers in coverage.
Dawson's instincts and tackling ability make him a valuable asset against the run, but his athletic limitations hinder his effectiveness in extensive man or zone coverage.
