02Scheme fit
Ideal system

Ultimately, he is a 'tweener' who will likely carve out an NFL career for himself as a designated pass rusher within an aggressive 3-4 front.

Boundary LBRush OLBDesignated Pass Rusher
Best role

Valles should begin his career as a sub-package pass rusher on obvious passing downs with the ceiling of developing into a starting 3-4 OLB.

Wrong fit

He is a poor fit for anything other than a 3-4 defense that can mask his coverage abilities and allow him to take advantage of his pass-rushing skills as opposed to playing a full-time Sam or Will in a 4-3 and being exposed in coverage.

Valles makes sense for the Raiders given Khalil Mack's ability to play across the formation, allowing Valles to rush the passer from the closed side of the formation and not be asked to drop into coverage.
