Gooden projects best in a 4-3 Cover 2 or Cover 3 scheme that prioritizes athletic linebackers capable of contributing in coverage as well as run support.
As a rookie, Gooden could contribute immediately on special teams while developing into an eventual starting weakside linebacker; his ceiling is a Pro Bowl caliber playmaking WILL backer.
Gooden would struggle significantly as an inside linebacker in a 3-4 two-gap scheme, where his lighter frame and less advanced run-stuffing technique would be exposed.
Gooden's elite athleticism and coverage ability make him a valuable asset in schemes that ask linebackers to cover ground and make plays sideline-to-sideline, both in the run and pass game.
Selected #97 overall in Round 3 of the 2013 NFL Draft by Tennessee Titans out of Missouri.
Relative Athletic Score (Kent Lee Platte) benchmarks combine/pro-day numbers against every measured prospect at the position since 1987. 10.00 is elite; 5.00 is average.
